ATLANTIC-EVEREST PROJECTS 2010-2011

Over the coming twelve months, I plan to make some very exciting lifelong projects become a reality...

• A world record Atlantic crossing
• A complete North-South traverse of Mount Everest

Starting off this autumn as a warm up in the Himalayan mountain range, I shall climb Mount Manaslu, (8,163 meters – 8th highest mountain in the world) solo, without Sherpa support or supplementary oxygen.

In December, I will be part of a six-person team to row across the Atlantic Ocean on board a custom-built boat ‘Triton’. This boat is a purpose-built, seagoing, racing trimaran just shy of 40 foot long. We plan to leave from Morocco and arrive in Barbados; obviously the exact date will be determined by the weather window. Notwithstanding the planning and state-of-the-art equipment and as much physical and mental preparation as possible, the weather will play a crucial part in our crossing.

The team has been handpicked and is a mixed-sex team of Olympians and trans-Atlantic record holders. We are all driven by the same idea: beating the current world record of 33 days.

Giving my body just a month to recover, I will then be heading out to the Himalayas, to the North side of Everest (8,850 meters – the highest mountain in the world). I am planning a full traverse of Everest - North to South, starting in Tibet and descending into Nepal. This will be accomplished without Sherpa support or supplementary oxygen. I shall re-join forces with my climbing partner Andrew Lock on this phase.

SPONSORSHIP

I am currently in the process of raising money in the form of sponsorship towards my projects for 2010-2011

Unfortunately raising the money for the material and permits needed for these adventures presents almost as great a challenge as the expeditions themselves!

Thus far I have been funding these adventures personally. Sponsoring me will give your company the benefit of being associated with record-breaking challenges and the opportunity of taking your company 5,389 kilometres across the Atlantic Ocean or to the top of the highest mountain in the world...

Sponsorship brings with it unique opportunities for corporate events: a launch event and/or an arrival reception, for example. Corporate sponsors may want to use the Atlantic row start in Morocco or the finish in Barbados as prizes or parts of strategic campaigns. Other benefits include a positive brand image, recognition and recruitment incentives – the branding gives a positive image through the promotion of adventure, endurance, fitness and also being ecologically friendly.

These qualities make the company attractive to customers, investors and talented potential recruits.

The challenge of rowing and climbing can further be used as examples or role models for building commitment and team work.

The rowing boat itself is a fantastic canvas for corporate advertising and could be utilised in marketing campaigns for your organisation, not forgetting the photo opportunity of your company logo on the summit of the highest mountain in the world.

Should you have products I could try out during the expeditions, what better selling point than that your product has been tested in and withstood the extreme elements of Everest and/or the Atlantic Ocean.

All these opportunities could be exploited by the sponsoring organisations.

ROWING SPONSORSHIP

Our ocean rowing expedition can be a great opportunity for your company to make a difference and be publicised in the media. Unique ways your company can get involved in the sport of Ocean Rowing include the following packages:
